Favorite Products for Summer

It’s the first week of May and I can taste summer, my favorite season of the year. Summer means bright colorstrips to the lakefloating the rivercamping with friendsbarbequesrestaurants with outdoor patiosdrive-in moviespicnicssunshine...

And going to town festivals, like Marion’s Esperanza Bonanza coming up this weekend, and Conway’s Toad Suck Daze last weekend, where Sean and I stood next to Jim Bob Duggar and some of the Duggar kids to watch Stuck on a Truck…Ok, I’m not obsessed, but I did happen to know which of the 20 kids they were, from always watching the show. Jessa was holding Jennifer, and one of the twin boys was with them, (Justin or Jason?) See? Not obsessed. You would've been amazed how annoying some people/fans were and it made me feel bad for them. So when he walked up beside us, we just smiled and exchanged polite head nods.

Like I said, this weekend is Esperanza Bonanza; 3 days of music, bbq, ribs, crawfish, and funnel cakes. And mud is usually thrown into that equation...LOTS of mud, so stay tuned to see how we fare.

We have a lake weekend planned in 2 weeks and a river trip planned for Memorial Day weekend so summer is almost officially here! In honor, I'm sharing just a few of my favorite things for summer 2010.

Summer Cocktail: Mojito

The fresh mint flavor and light sweetness make mojitos my favorite summer concoction. Here’s a recipe for a classic, and one with a strawberry twist.

Mojito

Ingredients

Ice
6 ounces light Rum
12 mint sprigs, 8 broken apart
6 tbs fresh lime juice
4 tbs sugar
Club Soda
4 lime slices

Directions (Makes 4)

Place ice in beverage shaker and add rum, 8 broken up mint sprigs, lime juice and sugar. Shake well and serve over ice. Top each glass with a splash of club soda and garnish each with a slice of lime and sprig of mint.

Strawberry Mojito

Ingredients

Extra white sugar, for rimming
2 limes, quartered
½ bunch of mint leaves
7 strawberries, quartered
1 cup white sugar
1 cup white (or light) rum
2 cups club soda
8 cups ice cubes

Directions (Makes a pitcher)

Run lime around rim of glasses and dip into sugar. Set aside. Squeeze all lime quarters into pitcher along with mint, strawberries, and 1 cup sugar. Crush the fruits together to release juices. Stir in the rum and club soda until sugar has dissolved. Pour over ice to serve.

Summer “Easy” Outfit: Romper

Rompers are MY pick for this summer’s wardrobe, and if I had enough of them, it’s all I would wear. They come in casual and dressy styles and, like the sundress, are so effortless because there’s nothing to put together. One piece and you’re done. It’s another item I searched high and low for last summer, and now a year later, they’re everywhere. Here are some of my faves:

Summer Scent: Hawaiian Breeze-Glade Scented Oil

I love summery smells and this one is my all-time favorite. It gets the MOST compliments of any I've tried. Even people who've just come to the doorway take a whiff and say "Mmm, what is that? It smells so good in here." Simply put, it smells like sweet summer.

Summer cute accessory: Vintage-Inspired Apron

Spring/Summer cleaning may still be a chore, but the season provides the most motivation to get the house clean in a decent mood. You can throw open all curtains, doors and windows on a sunny day and put on your cute apron, and it’s much more enjoyable!

It's handy with pockets to hold odds and ends to later be placed, and you don't have to feel so frumpy or get cleaning supplies on your clothes. You’ll love having one of these for summer barbecues and grilling out, so when friends or family are over you don’t have to mess up your clothes or look ragged with "a barbecue stain on your white t-shirt". I asked for a cute apron last year and Sean got this one for me for Christmas. It’s from Jessie Steele and there are lots of adorable ones to choose from.

Happy Summertime!

XOXO,

Katie
